Environmental protection

Environmental protection has one of the priority values in the production and economic activities of “KPI Inc.” LLP.

Our mission is to produce environmentally friendly products to improve people's quality of life and conserve natural resources.

Our efforts are focused on effective management of environmental impacts without causing harm to society and nature. In our polypropylene production, we endeavour to comply with industrial and environmental safety standards and aim to continuously improve our environmental management system.

Environmental impact assessment is a mandatory part of any activity planning.

We prioritise greenhouse gas emissions management, flaring reduction, waste reduction, biodiversity conservation, greening of the surrounding area and energy efficiency.

We value the efficient use of natural resources and are committed to reducing our environmental impact. Our measures include:

Monitoring and reduction of harmful emissions.
Effective waste management and recycling.
Investing in environmentally friendly technologies and equipment and optimisation of production processes.
Efficient use of water resources.
Strategies to reduce energy consumption.
Measures to reduce raw material consumption.

Expenditure on environmental protection measures in 2022 totalled 55 mln. KZT, and in the past 8 months of 2023 – more than 110 mln. KZT. Investments in environmental protection measures indicate the organisation's commitment to reducing the negative impact on the environment and maintaining a balance between production and nature conservation.

During 2024, the project “Installation of an automated environmental monitoring system” will be implemented. The relevant funds are provided for in the Company's capital expenditure budget. Currently, design work has been completed and design and estimate documentation has been drawn up.

This project is important for the sustainable development of our plant. It is important that our plant complies with all environmental regulations from the very beginning of its operations. The monitoring system will help us to quickly adapt to future changes in legislation and environmental safety standards.

The introduction of modern monitoring technology demonstrates our willingness to innovate and our commitment to sustainable development. We believe that the implementation of this system is not only a mandatory requirement, but also part of our mission to use resources in a lean and responsible manner.

At the same time, we plan to implement the following environmental projects in the near term:

Development of a sanitary protection zone project for the enterprise;
Post-project analysis of environmental impacts;
Comprehensive technological audit to assess the current state of the enterprise for compliance with the principles of the best available technologies aimed at preventing and minimising negative anthropogenic impact on the environment.

We aim at successful completion of these projects and their positive impact on the future of our plant and society as a whole.

Our goals:

We set specific targets and indicators to measure our sustainable achievements. Our priorities include:

Increasing water efficiency by 5% by 2025.
Implementing an automated environmental emissions monitoring system in 2024.
Reducing CO2 emissions by 5% from baseline by 2030.

On an annual basis, we plan to analyse our environmental achievements and identify areas for improvement, goals and targets for future activities. In order to preserve environmental wellbeing and reduce our environmental footprint, we continuously explore opportunities to apply and implement new practices and technologies.

Environmental monitoring:

Environmental monitoring is a key element of our business. We strictly monitor and analyse the environmental impact of our production processes. This includes:

Emissions monitoring: We regularly measure and analyse air and water emissions to ensure they meet environmental standards and regulations.

Water quality monitoring: We monitor the water quality of surrounding water sources and water bodies to ensure they are safeguarded.

Biodiversity research: We support initiatives to study and protect local ecosystems and species.

Atmospheric emissions:

We are committed to minimising our impact on the atmosphere and tackling climate change. To do this, we:

Adopt efficient technologies and processes to reduce carbon emissions.
We adhere to strict air quality regulations and standards to minimise air pollution.
We implement an automated system of continuous environmental monitoring at major emission sources.

Water resources:

Water resources are a vital aspect of our operations and we are committed to their sustainable use:

Efficient water management: We reduce water consumption in our production processes and use it sustainably by recycling and returning treated effluent to the production process.
Protecting water bodies: We work to preserve neighbouring water bodies and aquatic ecosystems. For this purpose, the Company has implemented a system for monitoring and controlling water quality in water sources.

Biodiversity:

We recognise the importance of biodiversity conservation for the health of the planet and future generations. To this end, we plan to undertake the following activities:

Develop and implement measures to conserve and maintain biodiversity in the areas where the organisation operates;
Implementation of measures to preserve animal migration routes, such as: warning signs for passing motor vehicles, limitation of traffic at night, preservation and increase of the forage base on the routes of animals and birds by planting perennial grasses, shrubs and trees.
Cooperation with environmental organisations. We actively collaborate with environmental and scientific organisations to maintain biodiversity.
