On January 27, 2021, as part of a business trip to Atyrau, First Vice Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Murat Zhurebekov visited the Special Economic Zone “National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark”, on the territory of which the construction of the first integrated petrochemical complex for the production of polypropylene is underway. The operator of the project is “Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries Inc.” LLP.

The construction sites of the complex under construction were observed. The IPCI includes process units of propane dehydrogenation (PDH), propylene polymerization (PP) using licensed technology of the world leader in polymer production “Lummus Technology” and 32 large infrastructure facilities. The goal of the project is to produce 500 thousand tons of polypropylene per year.

Effective measures taken by the team of JSC “NC “KazMunayGas” and KPI ensured the dynamic progress of the Project. As of January 27 of this year the overall progress of the project, including design work, orders placement and supply of equipment and materials, construction, amounted to 81.50%.

A digital 3D model has been developed, which will be the basis for creating a digital twin of the plant. The development of drawings of building structures is completed. The installation of steel structures and equipment, underground utilities, upper concrete structures, steel process pipelines and fire-fighting water pipelines, tanks, sandwich panels continues. Transportation and delivery of equipment to construction sites is carried out.

The implementation of the Project is of great importance for the economy of the republic. 39 companies are involved in construction work, 36 of them are Kazakhstan. Domestic factories have placed orders for capacitive, heat-exchange and electrical equipment, for pipe and cable products, most of which have been supplied to construction sites of the IPCI. For the manufacture and supply of steel structures, 8 Kazakhstan enterprises were involved. The new plant will create high-tech workplaces (over 500).

The KPI team is faced with the task of completing construction by the end of 2021. Through the use of advanced technologies and the best world practices, KPI plans to become the first digital industrial enterprise in Kazakhstan. It is planned to introduce full automation with the exclusion of human intervention in permanent production processes.
